Bear
The "Baby"
About River Run Farms
The River Run Farms is a working, crop producing operation that also
serves as a Boer goat ranch.
Our Boer goat ranching evolved in a slightly different manner than our
farm did that we noted on our main web page. A neighbor had a really
wonderful Great Pyrenees dog that was about 18 months old who stayed
with us more than he did with his owners. And I guess you could say that
it all started with that dog.

As things happened, the owners were relocated to a big city, and had to
live in an apartment. "No Dogs Allowed". Long story short, we ended up
with "Bear". Neither of us are "inside" pet people, and with a Pyr's habit of
going on long cross country trips, we had a dilemma. Penning up is the
way to go with the Pyrenee breed and we did not have the heart to pen up
"Bear".

As we were doing research on the Great Pyrenees mountains, I
consulted with a neighbor who had raised South African Boers and a
decision was made to build the infrastructure and buy the first stock.
From pictures on the web site, you can see we have done a bit of that. It is
a pretty decent goat ranching set-up featuring pictures with water, kidding
barns, shelters, hay barn (we raise and bail our own), and manager's
office
"Just a little touch of Heaven on earth"
The farm has grown to about 500 acres, we have restored another log
cabin that has an extensive outdoor kitchen, and we have added a lot
more landscaping. We like to think that we have made good headway
toward improving our herd of South African Boers.
Come see us. You are always welcome.
